Founder Managing Secretary

                Onkar Nath Bhargava served as the Founder Managing Secretary of Feroze Gandhi College, Rae Bareli from 08.08.1960 to 29.03.2022 and helped laying the foundations of the College alongwith Late Feroze Gandhi on 08.08.1960. A builder of phenomenal repute by his profession and a renowned educationist and social thinker by his calling, he was the beacon light which guided the College during the first 62 years since its inception and ensured that the College firmly stayed on the right course. In the times of general degradation of time- tested values and established social norms, he did his utmost to keep the institutional identity, values and character of the College intact. Perfectionist to a fault and a hard task master, he had painstakingly and assiduously built the College brick by brick, man by man. He was a fine repository of the old world values of hard work, commitment to a noble cause, integrity and human kindness. His concern for the social, economic and environmental problems that the country and the world are presently faced with was deep and his writings on the issues of his concern were wide.

                Onkar Nath Bhargava graduated from the University of Lucknow in the year 1945 and inspired by the zeal and fervour of the freedom struggle before independence and the idealism and enthusiasm of nation buliding after independence, he came into close association with freedom fighters of Rae Bareli including Munshi Chandrika Prasad, Wasi Naqvi and others to work actively for the establishment of Gandhi Intermediate College in Bachhrawan, Rae Bareli in the year 1948. Overtaken by the spirit of social and economic reforms, he joined Acharya Vinoba Bhave during a lap of the Bhoodan Movement.

                He came into contact with the Founder President of the College, Late Feroze Gandhi in 1952 during the later’s campaign as a candidate for Lok Sabha election and actively supported him to lay the foundations of Rae Bareli Degree College on 08.08.1960 for the education of the students of an economically and educationally backward District like Rae Bareli. Feroze Gandhi left for his heavenly abode on 08.09.1960, exactly a month after laying the foundations of the College when the institution was still on the cradle. His unfinished work was taken over with aplomb by Onkar Nath Bhargava as the Founder Managing Secretary and for the next 62 years, the institution was nurtured, strengthened and built to the present level by him with commendable strength, wisdom and dignity. He developed the College as a living memorial and as a fitting tribute to the vision of its Founder President.

                Academic development of the College and welfare of the students and of the teaching and nonteaching staff were like articles of faith for him. After having served as the Managing Secretary for 62 long years, he relinquished his position in the AGM held on 29.03.2022 after ensuring the smooth transition of the College into able hands through democratic process and shortly thereafter he left for his heavenly abode on 03.04.2022. Institutional interest of the College was always close to his heart and this inspired him to work for the College till his last.
