About the College

                Feroze Gandhi College, Rae Bareli is a fully U.P. Government- aided, multi- faculty, Post Graduate College associated with the University of Lucknow, Lucknow. The College was established and is run by the Rae Bareli Degree College Education Trust, formed in 1958 as a Trust duly registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. The affairs of the College are managed and governed by the Managing Committee of the College which is a body duly elected for the purpose by the Rae Bareli Degree College Education Trust. The Societies Registration Act, 1860, U.P. State Universities Act, 1973, First Statutes of the University of Lucknow, Lucknow, University Grants Commission Act, 1956 and the UGC Regulations, 2018 constitute the legal structure on the basis of which the College functions. The College is a premier institution of higher education imparting quality education to the students coming from Rae Bareli and other surrounding Districts of Uttar Pradesh.  Its foundations were laid on  the 8th of August, 1960 by the outstanding parliamentarian and the then M.P. from Rae Bareli Lok Sabha Constituency, late Feroze Gandhi with the active help and support from other leading social figures of Rae Bareli including the Founder Managing Secretary of the College, late O.N. Bhargava. 

                Endowed with a rich and inspiring legacy, the College enjoys the distinction of having been visited by the President and the Prime Minister together and by other high ranking dignitaries in the past. Beginning from a humble base of 55 students and 05 teachers in the year 1960, the College has grown to the present strength of nearly 5000 students and 96 teachers. The College provides the facility of higher education to the students in 04 Faculties – Arts, Science, Commerce and Education and 16 Departments through more than 30 adequately sized classrooms, well equipped science laboratories and rich library resources. With its strictly merit- based and transparent admission process, disciplined campus, regularity of class teaching and free and fair examinations, the College has made a mark for itself among the institutions of higher education in the State and has been able to retain its institutional identity and credibility over time. The institutional philosophy of the College is very aptly reflected in its motto – ‘Gyaan, Shaanti evam Pragati’ (‘Knowledge, Peace and Progress’) signifying that the attainment of real knowledge leads to the dawn of peace which in turn leads to all round progress in the society. As an institution serving a noble social cause, the College remains committed to fulfilling the sublime ideals of growth with equity and quality with inclusion in its attitude, structures and processes.
