English Department Overview

Department History

As been related to Gandhi family FGC has very prestigious history.

    

The Department of English came into existence in 1960 with the opening of the college by Late Sri Feroze Gandhi, parliamentation and a great crusader for public cause Sri. S. P. Rai had the privilege of becoming its first head. He left the college in 1965 after being selected for the Rajasthan Provincial Education Service. The year 1972 was a year of growth and extension both for the college as well as the department when P.G. Classes were opened. Various teachers appointed in the department from time to time are:

The department organizes seminars, students seminars, debates, discussions, literary quiz competitions and lectures by eminent scholars on different topics to generate greater awareness among students and provide them a better exposure to the subject. All these activities are planned with the sole aim of creating an innovative temper and a competitive spirit among students and helping them achieve something outstanding. Nearly a dozen scholars have been awarded Ph.D. in English and more than half a dozen scholars are enrolled for research leading to award of Ph.D. degree in the department. A full fledged language laboratory in being established to provide students with audio-video facilities for acquiring skill in language and literature.

Feroze Gandhi College is the main center for higher education in the Raebareli district. The college was established on 8th August, 1960 by the then Member of Parliament Sri Feroze Gandhi. At present the college is providing education in four faculties namely "Science, Arts, Commerce & Education". There is also a proposal to  declare it  A Deemed University.
