Department History

As been related to Gandhi family FGC has very prestigious history.

Chemistry department was established in the year 1963 with B.Sc. (Mathematics group) Dr. Gopal Krishna Pathak as head of the department and Sri. Gokaran Nath Mishra as Lab Assistant. In 1968 B.Sc. (Biology group) and in 1972 M.Sc. classes were also introduced. A number of highly qualified teachers joined the department :

Major/Minor Projects in the Department

(i) Group theory in helminthes (ICMR, New Delhi) to Dr. A. K. Ramrakhiani.

(ii) Group theory in Gnseries (C.S.I.R Lucknow) to Ran Rakhiani

(iii) Major Research Project entitled, “A mechanistic study of Ru(III) and Ir(III) catalyzed oxidation of some hydroxyl acids and primary alcohols by Quinolinium Fluoro Chromate” has been sanctioned by C.S.T., U.P. [Ref. No.CST/SERPD/ D- 3399] to Dr. Sheila Srivastava in March, 2007.

(iv) Major Research Project entitled, “Mechanistic study of Ru(III) and Os(VIII) prompted oxidation of some aldoses and amino acids by bromate in aqueous alkaline medium” has been sanctioned by UGC [F.No. 32-283/2006(SR)] to Dr. Sheila Srivastava in February, 2007.

(v) Minor research project entitled “A comparative mechanistic study of Ruthenium(IV) and Iridium(III) catalyzed oxidation of some hydroxy acids and primary alcohols by Quinolinium Fluoro Chromate” has been sanctioned by UGC [F.5.1.3(Chem)64/05(MRP/NRCB)] to Dr. Sheila Srvastava on 30th March, 2005 which has been completed in May, 2007.

(vi) Minor research project entitled “Kinetics and mechanism of Ru(VIII) catalysed oxidation of some cyclic alcohols and diols by sodium periodate” has been sanctioned by UGC (F 8.4(24) / 1999-2000/ MRP / NR) to Dr. Sheila Srivastava on 31st March, 2000 which has been completed in May,2002.

(vii) Minor project entitled “ Investigation on Rh(III) catalysed oxidation of some alcohols and amino acids by acid bromate”. was sanctioned by UGC (16- 92/92 SR-1) to Dr. Sheila Srivasatava which has been completed in October, 1996.

Feroze Gandhi College is the main center for higher education in the Raebareli district. The college was established on 8th August, 1960 by the then Member of Parliament Sri Feroze Gandhi. At present the college is providing education in four faculties namely "Science, Arts, Commerce & Education". There is also a proposal to  declare it  A Deemed University.
